Colorado Women's Art Museum Photo op

Writer: Leslie A AguillardLeslie A Aguillard

So, it was a bright, crisp morning outside the Denver Art Museum waiting for artists to arrive on 3/23/2024 at 9:30 am. As soon as the actual/official photo taken gets published, I'll show it to you.

We were maybe a thousand or so shy compared to last year but, optimistically, we will still be here next year to try it again - one should not compare, after all. In the meantime, here is me smiling as I sit on my cane-chair.

I did buy a long sleeve tee shirt to help the museum and I was glad to see many women I at least recognized facially if not by name. It is always good also to introduce a new artist or two to Laura of the fooLPRoof contemporary art gallery (3240 Larimer- go see it now) and to know that many women are still in "it", still making art, still creating and still breathing.

The new women's art museum is looking for a permanent home and in the meantime, happily, some local galleries on the Santa Fe Drive art district - what's left of it from gentrificational apartment buildings going up and up - are kindly hosting shows. Just think of what we could do if the billionaires really paid taxes to help endeavors like "The Arts"!! okay. That may be a tad self serving but why not? They have 90% of all the resources. They could buy us a building!

Ah, the Arts!!

What else have I been doing? I've drawn my version of the Tarot - a project I've been wanting to do for a long time. Let me know if you are interested in adding this deck to your collection.

I am still working out some kinks in the Goddess/Mother Earth/Statue of Liberty coloring book, and working on a new sculputural series entitled: Genitals of the Universe, and this includes the Emotional Support Sculpture which currently haunts the back of the fooLPRoof gallery, but be assured, I am still making all the art that flies through my consciousness as fast as I can. One must be vigilant when the years ahead are way fewer than those trailing behind.

What do you think of "Ai," I am sometime asked... honestly, I don't want it making art, or writing poetry, or pretending to be actors in movies unless they depict non humans. Aren't we getting a little too disenfranchised from one another and "reality" as it is? Then again, how do you know I am not a robot? How do you know that "Ai" isn't manufacturing this very blog post? OMG - how do I prove that I'm not a robot??? (You got anything??)

While I contemplate this question, I will go back to drawing and drinking coffee and await your suggestions how to prove what is and what isn't human.

More later. Keep making ART!!

You are truly an inspiration and I hope you are able to continue to "do art" until your very last day. In the year since Barb passed, I have been trying to get my head around the concept of "The Last Day". I have not yet been successful in doing it, and now understand it is not simply an intellectual experience, but an all emcompassing existential experience one will never understand until it is their turn to experience it.
