Soon to be banned in Tennessee and Florida

Writer: Leslie A AguillardLeslie A Aguillard

Yes, I am annoyed by books being banned that supposedly "save" children and yet there is noting being done about gun control, global warming, pollution and over population. Leave books alone.

In the meantime, throwing caution to the winds, as in this image (oops, the right hand is cropped off so you can't see caution crumpled and drifting away from her fingers. Sorry. You'll have to com to the gallery, first the Curtis gallery opening Nov. 4, 6 pm, the show is entitled: Taking up Space. It is supposed to be a "large" works show but a lot of my pieces were too big! This one, titled O Fortuna, is but 50" x 60". A friend just asked me: is that a female or a human? Naturally, I said it was both.

Last Sunday I was treated to attending a panel discussion on Street Art at the Red Line Gallery. It was so kind of Laura Phelps Rogers to pick me up and transport me in her new gallery car. The fooLPRoof contemporary art gallery at 3240 Larimer in Denver is looking particulary fine this month and you ought to see it. Anyway, Laura and her indispensible husband Carl plus another artist Gary and I listened and viewed the very interesting show and then, as any decent pack of artists would then do, went out for a beer and some food. The Blue Moon was quite nice on 38th Street. Thanks to all. Now back to my kvetching about banned books and images...and the absurdity of any nude or mention of sex as things from which children should be shielded... what are those people really saying? Kids should learn about sex in the streets jus like we did!! Don't let any drivel about STDs or human foibles confuse the issue. You know I just can't stand the close minded hypocrisy of it.

You may remember I made a social justice coloring book and in it there is a Please Run for Office drawing (look right)

The statues of Liberty, Peace, Freedom, Justice and Mother Earth are pleading with a young woman, who kindly is not looking at her phone) to do just that...run for office. We need young, intelligent and Earth minded folks to go into civic duty and save us from the greed mongers and the gas and oil industry still poisoning the planet and their paid puppets propping up the system geared to keep the greedy in power. Ah, my dear friends, we have a lovely planet (which needs our help) and a precious life with which we can appreciate that beauty, art, a coffee with friends, etc, so let's get to it. I want my art to be something more than interior decor (you've heard this before, I know) and whether you think a cartoon will accomplish anything or not, I encourage you to go to some galleries with friends and afterwards talk about the experience over some food and drink. Happy Autumn. Keep making art. thank, Leslie
